Recap

I chose to just write about my favorite of the 4 stories included in Conan the Barbarian #25/300. No disrespect to the other 3 stories, I just liked this one best.

Review

The silent Dan Slott story Night of Oblivion with art by Marcos Martin and Muntsa Vincente is clever, fun, interesting and entertaining. Conan blacks out and goes on an adventure, so relatable!

The use of a single camera angle relegates us to passengers in Conan’s bleary eyed shenanigans. The repeating panels are handled flawlessly by Martin and the chaos of the night is conveyed so well without text of any kind. I love how the backgrounds get less and less details as Conan’s mental state deteriorates then the whole scene shifts once he finally passes out.

The colors by Vincente are vibrant and lively, especially during the fight scenes, which get darker and darker as Conan starts to pass out then get even crazier after he falls. Perfect. 

I do think it’s odd that Roy Thomas wasn’t included, just thinking on it, not sure why.

Final Thoughts

This issue is a decent anniversary issue that pays a lot of homage to stories past. For an oversize issue the price tag isn't bad and I'd call it worth your time.
