Review

After the remarkable debut issue of Crossover it seemed grasp gain a huge portion of the comic book communities attention and rightfully so! Now its time to dive into the highly anticipated second issue!

Straight from the first page the creative team remind fans the level of power they hold to enable them to fabricate such unique scenarios within this title! Never did I think I’d open a book to see the breaking news of “Comic book writer found dead” tied to actual writer Brian K. Vaughn, stating its the fourteenth found dead in three weeks and that Scott Snyder, Chip Zdarsky and Robert Kirkman are M.I.A! This could possibly be the most extraordinary opening page I’ll ever see in my lifetime and what a way to suck readers straight back in to get lost in this world again!

The method of breaking the fourth wall and tongue-in-cheek direction and narrative throughout the issue is utilized with the utmost strength to the story which will capture the admirable approval of the readers! We get teased cameos in several pages which is such a guilty pleasure!

This issue still maintains a lot of mystery keeping the reader theorizing how the plot will further, we get a lot of information to digest throughout the issue following our main cast, especially Ellie and Ryan who as instructed by an unknown (for now?) back seat narrator. In short we get main plot points like the tease of who Ellie’s missing parents could possibly be and Ryan’s special involvement and attainment of a somewhat familiar green bullet able to take down any superhero.

The seeds are also planted here for how sinister this title can actually become with the reveal of camps and prisons that were set up to withhold and test the “Comic population” like Ava, the young girl who stated it was the camp she was rescued from not the dome. Then writing here is exceptional as you constantly fall into that inception between comic and real life which I’m guessing is the exact feeling what Donny Cates and his team strived for with this project.

I cannot praise Geoff Shaw and Dee Cunniffe enough yet again as they bring this insane world, plot, and characters to life with such a flawless art style that matches the vibe of the book perfectly.

Final Thoughts

Crossover issue two continues to skillfully build on this insane world even further and left me wanting more. Its that type of issue that you think about for days after you read it right until the next issue, which is undeniably going to be huge.
