Daredevil #29: So Good, It Should Be Criminal!

Another issue of Daredevil that’ll have your heart racing! Man, Chip Zdarsky takes the brakes completely off with this storyline as we keep getting surprise after surprise after surprise. I didn’t count but I’m sure this issues cliffhangers number in the double digits. I think what most impresses me is how long Daredevil’s been in jail. I’ve read plenty of stores that feature superheroes locked up, but they’re usually in there for two issues at the most. Daredevil has been in there about 5 times that and the story is still just as fresh as when it began. It helps that DD set some things into motion before he got put in jail. And Zdarsky doesn’t let us forget any of them! I think they’re all given time this issue, From Mike Murdock to the new Daredevil to the story of the Kingpin, the new Kingpin, and the newest Kingpin. This is one of those rare books where you’d enjoy it just as much, but on a different level, if you took the hero out of it, 

Now, can we talk for a minute about this issue artist Marco Checchetto? You know what? Even if you said “no” we’re gonna anyway. THIS guy is the kind of artist that makes other pros feel bad about their work. In one issue, this guy accurately portrays about 6 different settings and all of those settings have a VERY particular mood about them, From the dingy, grimy, muddy prison yard to the spooky, unsafe streets of Hell’s Kitchen to the brightly lit business offices in a beautiful skyscraper, Checchetto makes everything look unique and you honestly fee the change from scene to scene, He also has a high number of characters with pretty unique looks to work on and he pulls all of them off with a style that’s very clean, crisp, but also he gives things a sort of muted quality to them. Checchetto is definitely an artist whose work you can get lost in,
