Recap

Remember when Everyone thought Matt Murdock was Daredevil? Well, Matt had a plan to create a secret Twin brother named Mike Murdock. He did this to throw everyone close to him off his trail as Daredevil. Surprisingly, Mike has shown up in real life!

Review

Mike Murdock, having just been introduced to Daredevil last issue, is alive and in the flesh. More importantly, alive an in a Villain Bar. He asks Daredevil to pick up the tab as well, much to the chagrin of the Barkeep, who presently responds with,”This is a Villain’s Bar, we don’t serve his kind here.”

He asks if Mike is Mystique or the Chameleon? Mike is of course confused, but just at that point, four new patrons enter the bar.

The Trapster, White Rabbit, Speed Demon, and Overdrive. They do not take too kindly to seeing Daredevil and attack right away. The surprising thing was how much respect that Daredevil actually gave the Trapster. He takes him down carefully, knowing that he is the biggest threat of the bunch. Then White rabbit and Speed Demon. Mike decides to attack poor Overdrive, who was just hanging out at the bar alone minding his own business. Mike attacks him with the Bartender’s Shotgun, quite violently in fact. Then Daredevil confronts Mike and takes him out as well to go and get some answers.

He asks Frank McGee to help, and Frank has an Inhuman Psychic from New Attilan probe Mike’s mind. The Psychic finds that he truly believes that he is Michael Murdock, but is like an empty mind with many holes in his psyche.

Not convinced that he is truly the fictional Mike Murdock, Daredevil and Frank head back to their base of operations. Here Reader ( who brings to life whatever he reads, up to three times a day) tells them exactly what happened.

Reader was tired and reading some Braille notes from Matt Murdock, and fell asleep when running his hands across a part about Mike Murdock. This worked, because when Reader sleeps his powers reset, and poof! outcomes Mike Murdock flesh and bone.

Mike, who was tied to the easy chair comes around after waking up from daredevil’s haymaker punch.

He says that he is a real person, and is not going to be erased. He steals a pistol and takes Reader’s dog Forey hostage.

The good news is that Forey is alright, but Mike gets away and escapes from Daredevil in a crowd of people. Mike is out there somewhere and Matt or Daredevil need to find him.

Finally, we come to the Law office of Mr. Foggy Nelson, who has a surprise client. Foggy enters expecting for the red-haired gentleman to be his friend Matt Murdock and is surprised that Mike sits across from him brandishing the gun he stole from Reader. To be continued next time.

Final Thoughts

I enjoyed this comic. The story has elements of Science Fiction and Mystery with a Soap Operatic Twist! The art is very well suited to the story, and I love how Phil Noto has a style that really brings out the silliness in the retro fashion sense of Mike Murdock. The Story has a good amount of action but is as compelling and entertaining as the plot thickens and Soule unfolds the origin of Mike Murdock. I like the setup and the knockdown of this tale, and I think that Noto and Soule are a great pair! More please!
