Daredevil #8
Recap
There is just something about Daredevil and his stories that is dark, but they breeze by, and every scene feels important and mandatory; otherwise, you will miss the small details. In the last issue, we left after a great chase scene with Elektra having the city in her hands and asking Matt to follow her.
Review
We pick up with this issue and learn of a new problem in the city and a recall on a product that is not made clear at first in the issue. Then we skip to seeing Matt depressed because there is only one woman that can do that to him. We find out he let Elektra go and did not follow her, and then he could not find her. That is a huge loose end that we don’t move forward on because we then get thrown into the problem for this issue.
A new drug on the streets called “Valor” is taking the fear away from people. This is a great concept because without fear, people would just do anything, and we see examples of that on the street. The art also matches the script as we see Matt beating up some goons. He makes it clear he has fear in every punch he throws; he establishes that he is not what everyone thinks he is. I love that they say that in the script.
This series has the perfect mix of character development and action. It just balances perfectly; we have a cameo from Foggy, and then the end of the issue makes you scream to the heavens. You want more. There is an argument between Matt and one of his former love interests, which is the only first-world problem Matt has: with women. And in the end, the big bad that he has been chasing for days comes into his classroom and wants the smoke.
Final Thoughts
I am really into this series, and this is part one of this arc. This new threat feels like a distraction from what is to come next. Because the elephant not in the room is Elektra and because Matt made the choice to not follow her who knows what she will do with Kingpin's ledger and also we never get the answer why did Matt not follow her? I have faith that those answers are soon to come.
