Darkhawk #2: All Day I Dream About Shoes

I really think that this book has a near-perfect balance of superhero action and civilian drama. Even though author Kyle Higgins brings us along on the start of Conner’s early journey with MS, I find the way he writes this to be totally relatable, and I think a lot of other people will too. He shows us a wide variety of emotions that a person feels when diagnosed with a disease that will be with you for the long run-sadness, fear, depression, and at times bravery. While dealing with all these emotions, he’s still dealing with becoming Darkhawk and figuring the role that that’s going to play in his life, what the balance will be, with his everyday life, and figuring out exactly how the suit works. There are some pretty great moments of Darkhawk actions, and they lead to some SUPER high drama within the series cast, all leading up to an extremely intense ending that I never saw coming. 

Artist Juanan Ramirez shines just as much this issue as he did the last issue, he’s a very “Marvel” artist and his talents lend themselves to this book because it’s the standard Marvel archetype of the young, high school student who suddenly gains some powers and is thrust into the role of hero. What stood out to me about this issue’s art was the drama that Ramirez convey through his art. This issue is a roller coaster of emotions and you can feel them all through his drawings. This issue is definitely a high point for him.
