Darth Vader #25
Recap
Been missing out on Vader? Here’s whats up. Darth Vader has delved deep into Sith lore and discovered the insane architect Lord Momin. A Sith Lord who claims to be able to manipulate the Dark Side like no other (wonder where we’ve heard that before) and brings Vader on a collision course with his own demons as Momin’s twisted plans can only come to fruition on Planet Mustafar.
After returning to the very planet where Darth Vader was truly born, the baddest Sith in the galaxy brings a hemp of Imperial forces to do his bidding and begin working on a secret project, one he’s even gone as far as keeping from the Emperor himself. The last issue finds Vader dealing with the treacherous Sith architect Lord Momin, crafting a Force “tuning fork” that opens the gateways of space and time, life and death to any strong enough to command it. Problem is Lord Momin is a backstabbing snake as we found out last issue and had to be dealt with harshly. Darth Vader now has control of a portal into the very Force itself with only one goal in mind: Padme’s revival from the grave! Lord Momin dead, Vader now stands moments away from completing his all encompassing motivation.
Review
Piercing the veil beyond space time has some heavy reveals. The nature of his birth, a couple Force produced time paradoxes: the first true hint of his future abilities as Lil Annie before he ever met a Jedi and one ominous line that will have readers buzzing with their implications. Then of course we have ultimate fate of Padme’s spirit and Vader confronting the very will of the Dark Side itself, no spoilers on that one but trust me you won’t wanna miss it. Light on exposition but heavy on implication, Vader is even forced to face the very Jedi he’s slain or caused to be slain in a massive brawl that reminds you just how intense Darth Vader truly is.
Final Thoughts
Soule has a talent for balancing sledgehammer heavy action with artful plot seed planting, and the way he uses both here shows that he’s truly gets Vader. Not just as a battle-hardened killing machine (although he nails that too) but also as the tragically flawed man underneath the mask. If ever you needed a simple example of why Vader is so great and enduring this run is it, consistent in quality from start to finish. Soule brings an epic run to rollercoaster conclusion that will have any fan needing a minute to truly digest all that he’s revealed while also clamouring for the next chapter in Vader’s history to see how these things play out.
