Review

DC All In Saga: Darkseid vs. the World #1 is the launching pad for the next evolution of the larger All-In Era story arc from the Master Architects of the current DCU Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson. This installment of the All-In special is 100% Darkseid and begins to extrapolate on his plans and manipulations behind the events that have recently transpired and shaped the post New 52 / Rebirth events along with further developing the All-In events spinning out of Absolute Power and the Slobber-Knocker event DC K.O. in which the main DCU characters fought for the power to have a chance to defeat Darkseid and briefly met and interacted with their Absolute Universe counterparts.

Things start with a bang as Darkseid hints at his larger plan while handling once again proving that the Earth-3 Crime Syndicate can never catch a break. The crux of the issue focuses on Darkseid giving his TED Talk on his past, and quest to find and harness the Omega energy and how Superman and his variants across the multiverse are the source of the Alpha energy which was teased during the K.O. event., and how it factors in to his overall plan.

Snyder and Williamson also use this issue to cement what Darkseid’s Absolute Universe is, why he created it as such, and teases his ultimate endgame for both. The talent do a great job of establishing the larger idea that unlike the Main DCU is one of possibility, it also one with change, endings, and in the end unrecognizable as one dies usally confused, scared and alone. He juxtaposes his Absolute universe as one where nothing or anyone will be lost because it all is happening at once and forever

Snyder and Williamson really dig deep into things in this issue and leave readers with more questions than answers and an exciting jumping off point for the DCU in 2027.

In the backup story Williamson wraps up a loose end from the New52/Doomsday Clock story arc by revealing the fate of a certain character who debuted during Flashpoint and seemingly met their demise in Doomsday Clock. The character in question is given a role / title that will be very familiar to DC Comics fans of Crisis.

Sanford Greene captures the feel of Darkseid’s journey in the main story with his slightly rough, yet still clean artwork that captures the essence of Darkseid and the feel of the All-In/Absolute era that the DCU is currently in, while Yasmine Putri, on the backup art duties changes the  Flashpoint/New 52/Rebirth art feel in the flashbacks and to the reintroduced character seamlessly.

Final Thoughts

DC All In Saga: Darkseid vs. the World #1 reenergizes and reminds readers the larger DC All-In era story arc (not that it needed it) and sets the next stage of storytelling across the DCU in 2027 and beyond...
