DC Horror Presents #1- A Mind-Bending Good Scream Of A Time

DC Comics goes full-tilt horror in this first installment of DC Horror Presents. The issue contains two stories that combine classic horror tropes and the DC characters that are presented in a Tales From The Crypt manner sans a host or larger framing story.

Love You To Pieces

Love You To Pieces features Dollmaker’s daughter, Dollhouse, and the lengths she goes to save the man of her dreams, even if he wants out.

The story is both grisly and cringe hitting classic themes from grindhouse movies and Dollmaker’s twisted skills. Dastmalchian and Kilpatrick bring their experiences to a horror comic with dark humor.

Skaggs brings the blood and gore to life on the page that will leaves even the bravest reader feeling a bit squeamish in the end.

It is great to see Dollmaker and Dollhouse in a story that has them doing what they do best…slicing and dicing.

The second story finds Wonder Woman trapped in a fever dream that shakes her to her very soul. The story, by the Boulet brothers, is a dark trip fueled by Circe as a special “Mother’s Day gift” to Diana.  After an Amazon is murdered during the third night of the full moon, the trail leads to Hippolyta’s grave where Diana and Donna discover that something is not right. What follows is a mind-bending trip in which Diana must not only face her undead mother, but bury her a second time.

The art and color work really bring the story to life and give it the dark and gory edge one would expect from this type of story.
