Review

DC K.O.: Green Lantern Galactic Slam #1 is more setup for the Green Lantern corner of the post-KO DCU, and tangentially at best tied to the larger story being told. The issue begins with Kyle, Conner Kent Superboy, and his gal pal on Earth fighting Darkseid’s parademons. It is a bit jarring and lacks context and could have benefited from an editors note explaining that Conner has been helping the Corps in the Green Lantern Corps series.

The issue also reintroduces Omega Bam-Man, from Adams’ Flash run, a character that uses “Bro” as every other word, which gets tedious quickly. The issue is heavy on the exposition as the Omega Bam-Man’s tells Kyle his origin, which even seems to bore Kyle, who asks how that is supposed to get him back to Earth.

Much like wrestling the rest of the story follows the expected beats as it tries to justify its KO banner. Despite the aforementioned points there were some fun moments such as Kyle in a wrestling get up and Omega Bam-Man consistently getting Kyle’s name wrong. It was also great to see Knockout again and have Kyle question why she is helping Darkseid since she lives on Earth.

Much like issue of Aquaman during Fight Month, this issue seems more setup for what is to come down the road and less an important chapter in the events of KO taking place outside the tournament.

Final Thoughts

DC K.O.: Green Lantern Galactic Slam #1 takes a flying leap of the top turnbuckle and misses not only as a finisher but as a high-flying maneuver leaving little impact for the K.O. story arc but will be a fun read for fans of wrestling.
