Review
DC vs. Vampires: World War V #3 jumps around to the various subplot threads that Rosenburg has been spinning in the last chapter of the DCU ruled by vampires.
The issue begins in the past with Scott Free and Barda spending some quality time together and also revealing that Mister Miracle has been infected but is affected in a different way although how has yet to be revealed It is also here that he turns Barda and impregnates her.
Next the confrontation from last issue’s cliffhanger picks up with the newly empowered Green Lantern Alfred facing Vampire Wonder Woman. The two spar both physically and psychologically, with no real resolution happening at this time. It felta bit off the stance that Diana was taking saying Alfred really wasn’t a warrior and he could have became the ring bearer at anytime after Hal’s death. Still there is a sense and promise of a slobber knocker battle between the two in the near future.
The scene changes to Gotham as Aquaman and Grodd try to figure out the next move for the vampires. Harley makes her first appearance in this chapter as she is shown to still be alive and held captive. As Arthur and Grodd debate who should be the next ruler and how to proceed in dealing with the remaining humans when an old lady shown up and tells them about a certain child. The banter between Arthur and Grodd is both funny and telling as to where the vampires find themselves. As to the identity of the woman, the safe money is tha it is Granny Goodness since the child being discussed is that of Scott and Barda, who has been in the previous issues.
At the same time, Green Arrow and his followers are interrogating vampires to find out information on the plants they found growing in the warehouse last issue.
By this time, Ghost-Maker is searching for the child, having interrogated and most likely killed the doctor who was fixing up Scott Free.
Robin and his Undead League of Assassins are lead into a trap as Wonder Girl, Shazam, and Raven attempt to kill Damian for plotting and assassinating the Vampire Queen. Batwoman sacrifices herself to save Robin, who is layer rescued by the new Batman whose identity is revealed inbriated panel.
Finally Dinah approaches Constantine who is in his usual initiated state as he reveals that there is a prophecy of a Miracle child who may be the next evolution of the vampire race and will bring peace or the end of the world.
The issue covers a lot of ground popping in and out of the various threads already established. Overall, it seemes like this is the calm before the storm and before the blood hits the fan.
The Art and color work are consistent but there are a few instances where certain characters are ever so slightly noticeably off or look strange.
The back featuring a Geo-Force 5th dimension imp is nice for so.e levity and a chance to bring in some cameos of C andD Liat characters. The ending is a bit strange but is expected given the 5th dimension character.
Final Thoughts
DC vs. Vampires: World War V #3 is the time ithe story where established plot threads are beginning to come together and set the stage for the next part of the series. This in no way detracts from the overall story being told and still leaves questions to be answered.
