Review
Many comic arcs and stories start bridging that all-too-familiar midway point to big finish which can somewhat slow the pacing and dial down the action quite a bit just before it ramps back up for that anticipated huge payoff! I for one am here to tell you most of the time these issues fit perfectly and the third installment of Tom Taylor’s DCeased: Dead Planet is a prime example how it works!
Not to be deceived that there’s no engrossing action scenes to be witnessed here, we open the first few pages to see Zatanna obliterate the raging infected Plastic Man which makes for some absolutely jaw-dropping pages from the team of Hairsine, Baloassini and Bredo! The combined work of the creative team within this book is exquisitely executed, especially those colours which are a joy to the reader’s eyes!
Two noteworthy takeaways from this issue for me. Tom Taylor’s writing excels through the witty one-liners, especially through John Constantine – which as stated in previous issues are laugh out loud moments. Taylor’s storytelling shines the most in in heartwarming scenes including Damian and Gordan, Jon and Constantine in separate scenes, which undeniably feels like a service to their biggest fans!
With all the seeds in place building upon the first two issues we now have the pieces in place to seemingly drive this story to unforeseen platforms especially with that reveal and tease near the end!
Final Thoughts
A solid issue throughout wrapped up with another cliffhanger ending that will open exciting possibilities for the next issue!
