Deadpool #12: I Probably Deserve This…

Just like the recap says, this mess is INTENSE! Deadpool #12 is a bloody fight almost all throughout, but it also doesn’t forget to leave a few surprises at the end!

Although we are quickly approaching the final issue of Skottie Young’s unique Deadpool run, it is nice to see that there is a concrete plan to give the series a proper ending. Deadpool #12 starts to shed light on that plan by not only finally bringing in Weasel as the villain, but also reintroducing Deadpool’s forcibly forgotten daughter, Ellie.

The issue can be split into two parts that while may not be equal in length, are equally impactful on the reading experience. We are thrown into a brutal fight between Deadpool and Good Night that lasts the majority of the issue. It’s an immaculately depicted fight sequence with plenty of classic Deadpool quips, but that can only last so long. Towards the end, even Deadpool runs out of nonsensical remarks and is begging to just be done with it. That’s when the surprises hit.

Watching all the chaos on the news is Wade Wilson’s daughter, who he no longer remembers after having his mind wiped at the end of Duggan’s run. While Weasel’s inclusion is certainly interesting, this is the reveal that will have fans undoubtedly excited for next issue. Reuniting Wade Wilson with his daughter after everything he has gone through now could be quite a heartfelt moment, which is somewhat difficult to capture in a Deadpool comic.

Due to the nature of the issue, it is heavily reliant on the artwork itself to tell the story. Luckily the creative team delivers nothing short of a spectacle with Deadpool #12. It’s a quickly paced story that is particularly easy to follow thanks to solid panel layouts and well-placed lettering. Overall, its a great book to look at, especially when the artists utilize both black and grey sketches alongside completed color panels. Really cool!

If you enjoy brutal superhero bashing of faces, this is definitely a comic for you. For longtime Deadpool fans, however, this issue means something different. The future may be uncertain for the character, but having his bones beaten to dust by Good Night could be worthwhile after all!
