Recap

Deadpool and Thumper have vanished. Unfortunately, no one AT S.H.I.E.L.D knows where they are or how they ended up disappearing. Except for maybe one person, Domino. Domino is one of S.H.I.E.L.D'S most formidable operatives and works closely with Deadpool. Until Now.

Review

Thumper is an experiment gone wrong. A super soldier designed to be everything Deadpool is and more. His first official assignment is to kill Deadpool. Which we all know is impossible. He literally can’t die. Explosions, gunshot wounds, decapitation through it all, he doesn’t die. The whole growing back body parts thing puts a damper on his murder.

Thumper goes by many names, including Daedalus and, in his dreams, Deadpool. But the name Wade, AKA Deadpool, will never forget him, is Miles. They were high school buddies, and somehow, through all their blood and the killing, Wade couldn’t bring himself to harm Miles. He is still his friend at heart. Deadpool proves time and time again that the people he cares about most are his number one priority.

Department H has created a Super Soldier, maybe a little too successful. Daedalus is a ruthless and obedient killing machine. After intense training, he’s granted the task of killing Deadpool as his first target and won’t move on to another target without completion. Department H speculates that former super soldier Miles always tried living up to Wade and never could. Finally, realizing Wade was Deadpool, Miles was drawn to the Super Soldier program and had to compete to be better than his friend. Unfortunately, SH.I.E.L.D is looking to capture Daedalus and Deadpool has other plans.

Striving to make amends, Deadpool tries to take Daedalus somewhere where he can speak with his old friend and release him from Department H’s clutches. However, Department H will not let their most successful super soldier project go that easy.

They sent Kane to obtain Deadpool and Thumper, an unexpected outcome for Deadpool. Kane seems to have wanted this final meeting all along and manipulated his way to get to Deadpool. He wants Deadpool mutilated to the point of no regeneration, and using Thumper is how he believes he can accomplish this goal. As Deadpool would say, Kane has seriously underestimated the power of friendship.

To say the book is agonizing would be an understatement; this story does not let up in intensity. Readers turn each page with anticipation, and honestly, there were a couple of times I legitimately thought Deadpool was a goner.

Will Deadpool get the opportunity to save his friend, or will Department H prevail in its sick and twisted endeavor to create super soldiers for the highest bidder? Deadpool has been in some tight spots, but he has no backup this time and is battling two almost indestructible people with orders to kill him. Oof, I wouldn’t want to be Deadpool.

Rob Liefeld did a fantastic job with keeping this a funny action comic. I couldn’t help but want to get through every single panel to find out what would happen next. I enjoy Deadpool as a character and always have, I even have his video games, and there is something you expect from Deadpool literature, and Liefeld hits it on the head.

But of course, no comic is complete without its team of artists. Dark and colorful are usually not synonymous. However, anything is possible with a team like Rob Liefeld, Shelby Robertson, Adelson Corona, and Marat Mychaels. Deadpool is vibrant with blood and action scenes, and somehow these artists were able to portray real friendships in the violence. It’s subtle, but it’s there.

An action-packed comic that gives you drama and comedy that’s pure Deadpool. I am so happy to have read this series, and I will be reading the next thing Liefeld writes. He knows his characters and, more importantly, his readers.

Final Thoughts

I enjoyed every page of Deadpool Bad Blood #4. From the artwork to the storyline, it was all very well done. Chefs kiss the book and Deadpool, of course. This adventure is worth the read
