Recap

I had a hard time reading this month’s Demon Days, and not because of what you may think. But more so because I HATE SPIDERS! They are so icky and creepy with their hairy eight legs and their eyes! However, for the love I have for these comments, I swallowed down my fear and opened it up to see what the next story will bring for us. Peach Momoko's talents and beauty in her story will always be something that I was rant and rave about. Each page was colored with an art style that could only be put in museums.

Review

While we dive further into the Demon Days series, we see things slowly being pieced together for Mariko, who was “first” introduced in Demon Days June release. She is now venturing on her own to understand who she is and to walk her path alone to Mt. Kirisaki. I will say this, that tiny fist bump Reina does with the spider before leaving (creepy) was kind of cute. During the first few panels, we do see Mariko talking and singing with the spider, however, as we slowly see her moving deeper into her path, we notice how her face is obscure and hidden. Could this be a way that Momoko shadowing Mariko lost in identity with herself? And when we finally do see Mariko’s face completely, she utters the words, “I remember.” The small battle ensues with a splash of blood and words that can be exchanged before Mariko is awoken in an unknown place.

We see Reina and Logan reappearing from Demon Days: X-Men, the first installment of the Demon Days saga. We see them both getting to know one another before Kuroki (Widow) appears and calls to Mariko. For Mariko, this is a dream come true as she is trusting to her, while Reina senses something sinister about the woman. And we learn why as she attacks her and sees that she is not what she seems. A small battle ensues again and with Mariko slowly understanding where she is coming from and who she is we see her slowly make peace with this. The rest of the comic comes to an end with new characters coming forward, a plan and guidance that is still shadowed in mystery. We are still unaware of why this is happening to Mariko and why she is being tracked down by these unknown assailants.

Final Thoughts

The world that Momoko recreated for the X-Men has been a beautiful one. Things that are in her world and in her adventure that we are taking with her. To see this coming to light, I can’t help but know if this will keep going. I understand that this will be a short series but if she keeps this as ongoing, well, I’ll be buying every single one of these comics. Momoko has done so wonderfully with her team to continue this saga. We can’t help but cheer them on and praise them for their hard work. Demon Days: Cursed Web #1 comes out September 1st, so put your preorders in! The world needs to know more about this beautiful comic!
