Recap

Mariko lived an ordinary life until she discovered she was Oni. From her mother, who passed. In the previous issue of Demon Wars, we find that Mariko has a mother and a sister she didn't know about. Her sister, Ogin, resents and blames her for the death of their mother. Finally, after a battle with Ogin, she is back in the human world and living her everyday life. But how long will that last?

Review

Mariko is more robust than she appears, and with the Oni inside her, she is capable of much more than she realizes. Tensions in the world of the Yokai are high. Can she prevent a war from happening? To be determined.

When she finds her way back into the world of the Yokai in this issue, she encounters some unfriendly people. These Yokai believe she does not belong there. And she should give up her power for the greater good of the Yokai. I don’t know, man- some demons look at me and tell me to give up my power, or else I am liable to try and use that power to keep them clear away from me.

But moving on, Peach Momoko is doing very well with this series. The Demon War books capture your attention in a different way than most Marvel books. A Japanese Demon Princess story in Marvel is not usually Marvel’s wheelhouse. However, Momoko has seen to it personally that this collection of books is done well.

Between her being the writer and the artist, she makes sure her dedication to the story comes out. As a result, the artist’s popularity has risen to new heights in recent months. Her line in New York at New York Comic Con was the longest in the artist’s alley for the entirety of the convention.

Momoko’s work resembles Japanese watercolors. Most of her work on Instagram and this book is truly exquisite. At times you could swear you are looking at something 100 years old. Fascinating work. The book is stunning in art and alluring in its story. I love everything about it!

Final Thoughts

I look forward to February's next book of the Demon Wars saga. Peach Momoko is making her way into the comic book world, and I support it 100%. So check this book out, pre-order the next one, and see if the Yokai go to War!
