Review

Detective Comics #1078 is a rollercoaster of an entry in the Orgham saga. Revolving around saving Batman from a rigged trial, this issue is sure to have readers on the edge.

Batman’s been captured and drugged with Azmer, a hallucinogenic. It’s up to Catwoman and her team of unlikely members like Jim Gordon, Mr. Freeze, and Cassie Cain to stop the Dark Knight from being hanged.

Writer Ram V’s last issue was very much about, “the plan,” leaving this issue focused on the execution. It’s a fast paced story with members of Catwoman’s team having their moment to shine. While a drugged Batman isn’t new territory, it’s exciting to see how V is shifting the tone in a fluid way.

The art is strong with its dark and intense line work and rough colors. Artist Jason Shawn Alexander and colorist Dave Stewart do a solid job together and this issue is visually great.

On the backup is a story from writer Dan Watters with art by Caspar Wijngaard. It’s an action packed issue with Eiko Hasigawa (the other Catwoman) pulling a heist. It’s a decent extra story that takes place in the current timeline of the main story making for a good expansion of what’s happening in Gotham while Batman is captured.

Final Thoughts

For those following the Orgham saga and Catwoman’s plan to save Batman, this issue is quick and keeps the tension. While it may not be new reader friendly, it’s still a very enjoyable read.
