Did You Hear About Mimi Green? #4
Recap
Mimi Green came to Answers to escape a scandal, but now she must escape Answers with her life! With the world in flux and the Sour Creature's deeper nature revealed, only accepting the truth and choking it down can set Mimi and her surviving comrades free. But have they bitten off more than they can chew? It all ends in blood, one way or another!
Connor Goldsmith (the CEREBRO podcast) and Josh Cornillon (Young Men in Love) dig to the heart of things in the conclusion to their grisly psychological horror story.
Review
The horrific secret behind Answer is revealed and Mimi and her friends are in a desperate fight for survival. As the walls continue to close in on Mimi’s journey, she learns that the only way to look to the future is to reconcile her past.
Mimi Green has been a story about accepting those nasty parts of yourself. The darkness and the doubts deep down that you like to pretend aren’t there. Those ugly and monstrous parts of your being that make up who you are, but they don’t have to define you. The only way out is through and the creative team showcases that in beautifully bloody and gory fashion.
Connor Goldsmith finishes his narrative on a relatively strong note that brings the various characters journey’s to a solid end, while also leaving room to explore beyond the fleshy halls of Answers. The vulnerability of previous issues is still very much present and reaches their natural conclusion here. It’s even more clear that Goldsmith puts his own experiences into his script . Each major character’s trauma (even the villains) is explored and dealt with in ways that feel authentic to who they are and have become as people, for better or worse. Despite all the darkness though, there is still a small glimmer of hope at the end of the suffering.
Josh Cornillion’s art perfectly encapsulates the tone and mood this final issue is trying to convey. Working in tandem with mind-bendingly poignant and sympathetic script to bring to life some of the best visuals in the entire series. Some of the pages are very captivating, such as Mimi’s reconciling the two halves of herself and the symbolism therein. It perfectly illustrates the message behind the story.
Final Thoughts
Did You Hear About Mimi Green? ends on a very satisfactory note. This first outing for this creative team was an entertaining one filled with horror and heart and hopefully this is only the beginning.
