Do a Powerbomb! #6
Recap
We ended the last issue of Do a Powerbomb! with a tag-team DEATHmatch between F.Y.S.O and Sun & Steel. What a show- wrestling, after all, is for entertainment, no matter how gruesome or bloody, entertained just the same. This match especially went into gruesome reasonably quickly, with Lona down for the count, the winners of the championship match F.Y.S.O. Maggie and Frank now turning on each other. Why? How? and what is going to happen to Sun & Steel?
Review
Wow! A wrestling comic like this could not get any better. You know the tragedy of losing a child hurts or even a parent. Each wrestler in this comic has a heartbreaking story to tell. It’s what drives them in the ring. Now some are hurt so severely from the heartbreak they want to die, i.e., Maggie and Frank. Others go on living for their loved ones to make them proud.
Sun and Steel is the unannounced father-daughter dynamic duo. When Lona wakes up, she tells her dad she saw him under the mask. She knows his secret. Better late than never, right? Chills, I got chills while reading this book. Not only do we have one of the most epic wrestling scenes I have ever seen, in books or real life. But we have NECROMANCY?!! What?
Both Sun and Steel are incredibly relatable characters. I love how Steel embodies Yua Steel Rose – just a beautiful concept. Her colors, attitude, and overall appearance in the ring. She misses her mom and wants to prove she can be just like her. The girl has talent- like both her parents. Her mom discovered Cobrasun, the Luchador trying to make his father proud to wear that mask. So in-depth, this story – sheesh, I have goosebumps! I hope the grand finale next issue turns out well for them. These characters are worth keeping for future tales.
I recommend this book to any of my unorthodox indie and wrestling lover friends out there. What a plotline! Daniel Warren Johnson is doing a fantastic job of keeping us on our toes as readers. I thoroughly enjoy this comic series and hope many friends and readers feel the same way. The Image Comics team for Do a Powerbomb has outdone their previous book. They keep the story alive, from the writing to the artwork. Daniel Warren Johnson, Maria Wolf, and Mike Spicer, what a team! The chaotic style of the book gives a new depth to the story and the wrestling world.
I am looking forward to seeing how this series will end. The end of this book left me jaw-dropped! As a real-life wrestling fan, I love the moves and the scenes. Thank you for an authentic old-school hard-core wrestling storyline. I would read this beyond the seven books. I would get a subscription at my local comic shop if this series could continue.
Final Thoughts
Overall I can't complain about this series. I loved this book. It's the best book yet, hands down. The finale is going to be dynamite. I know it. Thank you to the team for such a "powerbomb" of a series! Daniel Warren Johnson, I look forward to reading what else you have in the works. Fans! Pre-order your books now! Do a Powerbomb! #7, coming out December 7th!
