Review

Okay so this issue is absolutely insane and I love it. Alejandro Arbona is a fantastic writer who genuinely gets what makes classic superhero/sci fi stories great. A perfect balance of solid relatable characterization with completely bananas situations only mediums like comics can deliver. I’m gonna keep this as spoiler free as possible but dudes and dudettes do yourself a favor and read then reread this issue and tell your friends who aren’t reading this yet they absolutely need to start.

From the first page we knew Bart Simms would get slapped into something crazy but Arbona has found a way to spin your expectations and amp up the stakes all in one move. He even plants a sick reference to classic Valiant for those old school fans like myself to geek out on. Combine that with a great use of basically the whole lineup of Valiant heroes in combat, possibly the best use of them in a big battle since The Valiant, and you’ve got just a spectacular issue from top to bottom.

Artist Jim Towe is right along for the ride bringing some fantastic art that perfectly matches the vibe as it drastically changes. Towe is great at delivering bright Silver Age happy vibes but doesn’t slouch on intense action or darker moments. Diego Rodriguez and Kelly Fitzpatrick add perfectly fitting coloring choices that really accentuate the art in all the right ways and adds vibrant energy to an already explosive issue.

Final Thoughts

Keeping it spoiler free, this issue is amazing and that's all there is to it. Go out and buy it and then go back and buy another issue to give to a friend.
