DOOMED 2099 #1

Recap
The world is in the clutches of Doom, but for how long, and what world?
Review
Frank Tieri’s Doomed 2099 #1 is a masterclass in showcasing the duality of Doctor Doom. Tieri skillfully captures both the magnificence and flaws of Victor Von Doom, presenting him as a soul torn between his vampiric thirst for power and the consequences of his actions. When Doom catches up with his future self, his arrogance is on full display; however, could this possibly be a foreshadowing of a vulnerability that we don’t see too often, if at all?
The great thing about Tieri’s Doom is how he balances the character’s brilliance and moral ambiguity, all the while filling the reader with rage courtesy of the good doctor, and he wouldn’t have it any other way!
The art of Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar is stunning in every sense of the word. The futuristic landscapes’ detail grabs the reader and transports them to a world dominated by megacorporations and ruled by none other than Doom himself. ?
The great thing about this issue is the feeling of “Saturday morning cartoon” joy when the motliest of crew are brought into the fray. From the Fantastic Four to the Avengers, to cosmic entities such as the Ghost Rider, this diverse cast adds even more excitement to the story. Each character brings their unique abilities and personalities (and baggage), creating moments of both tension and humor.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Doomed 2099 #1 is a fun space romp with a fun and familiar cast. Sharp writing, stunning art; whether you’re a longtime fan of the good doctor or looking for a quick introduction, this is your book!
