Review
Normally comics about super-villains are pretty bad. Yes, you can get a lot of miles out of a character that’s evil, but eventually, they’re turned into “anti-heroes” or you become too sympathetic to them. This book seems to be a little bit different. Author Christopher Cantwell tells a great story while simultaneously keeping Doom evil, arrogant, and dislikable yet funny enough so that you’re very entertained. It’s a fresh change of pace from the blood and guts killing style that’s going on in DC’s Year of the Villain books right now. We also get to see Doom interact with a fellow super-villain, and a couple of superheroes and those interactions are particularly well written.
Final Thoughts
Is it worth the $4.99? I'd say maybe. Though I enjoyed the story quite a bit, there wasn't a real sense of urgency in this book. I'm very interested to see what happens in the next issue, but I don't quite know if it's a book that I'll think about until then.
