Review

I believe in the last review I had mentioned being new to the series and Dr. Strange himself. One thing that surprised me in this run, is how hands-on Strange is. He goes toe to toe with what could be considered street thugs in a knockout slugfest. Which is not what I expected from Dr. Strange. It is a welcome surprise.

I am enjoying the story. I believe it is a great jumping-on point for new readers. I like that Waid didn’t spend to much time retelling his origin story and I am interested to see who is giving the bad guys powers. It very well could be the new Dr. Druid. That feels a little too obvious and not sure Waid will lead us in that direction.

I am very picky about my art. When I say art isn’t for me, it doesn’t mean that it is bad art. It simply means that it is not for me. I believe all art is awesome, I could never do any of this. I have nothing but respect for the artist and art. With that being said, the art is not for me. The battle scenes the art is outstanding. Day to day life art, facial art it’s not for me. I don’t care for the blocky facial expression etc. However, it does kind of work for a family-friendly book which is what this book feels like.  Although I am negative about the art, the colorist is doing an awesome job at make the book colorful and every panel pop.

Overall the book is off to a solid start, looking forward to issue #3. The covers are constantly great, the story is fun, a taste of dark, and captures the spirit of Dr. Strange.

Final Thoughts

Dr. Strange proves he is not afraid to brawl in order to save New York from being leveled. Strong story, great jumping on point, action in every panel.
