Recap

So far in the new Dr. Strange series, we have seen the epic return of Strange to the surgeon. Seeing how he balances the life of the surgeon and the superhero. So far we have seen him keep the two apart. For the first time in this issue, we see the superhero and the surgeon as the same to take on a youth draining demon. We also getting dragons and an awesome Phil Noto cover!

Review

When I found out that Dr. Strange was getting the use of his hands back and he was going to be a medical doctor again, I was less than thrilled. Him not being able to be a doctor is what made Strange a broken character. It gave him character. With that being said, I am pleasantly surprised by how much I am enjoying seeing the medical and superhero stories. I shouldn’t be as surprised considering I love Grey’s Anatomy. Now we just have superheroes added to it, what’s not to love?

This is a transition story, a filler story if you will. However, it’s a great one and done. It didn’t take away from the background story, but it didn’t add to the story either.  Well written as always but the best way to describe this issue is enjoyable.

I have been very critical of the artwork so far. I am not sure if the art is getting better, or I am learning to appreciate it more. Tartaglia did an outstanding job on the coloring. Each panel was phenomenal. Dark when it needed to be, bright and colorful when it required. Walker draws amazing horror. Once I saw the demon he drew, it was an “aha” moment. It wasn’t that the art wasn’t my cup of tea, it that I wasn’t looking at it for what it was. If I look at the Strange series for a horror grit book, the art fits perfectly. Which in return makes me appreciate the story that much more.

Final Thoughts

You can tell Waid has a connection with Strange, he writes him effortlessly which makes the story believable and character building.
