Recap

We start in the realm of Nidavellir and end the issue in Kryll City. Strange battles for his life against Mr. Smile and Mr. Sulk. Thankfully the Cloak of Levitation saves the day. We get a surprise appearance by the Strange academy were we meet a lovely Troll by the name of Grimlack. Grimlack leads us to the reveal of the big bad Madame Masque.

Review

Then reviewing a book, I tend to read the issue three times. First, one to just read, Second to think about what I want to say, and the third for notes (pre-draft so to speak). The reason I bring this up, the first time I read it, I didn’t care for it. A lot happened but at the same time I felt like nothing happen. The villain in the story seemed a little lackluster for the hype coming in. I should also mention I have no previous knowledge of Madame Masque. With that being said the second time I read it, I was far more tuned in the overall tone of the book. I enjoyed it far more than my first run.

Mr. Smile and Mr. Sulk are terrifying characters. Everything about them looks frightening and should be made into a horror movie. The art is still on point it does bring the story together. The artwork of Kryll City is beautiful.

I think the “team” Strange has is fun, I like Kermit and enjoy the relationship between Strange and Druid. I am sure Druid will turn on Strange but until then I appreciate their work relationship.

I do enjoy the series. I will say if I just read the book once I am not sure I would have enjoyed it the way that I did. I am not positive if I was reading it as a fan I would have continued to read the series after this issue. Was the issue bad? Not at all. I am just not sure I “care” enough about the characters to enjoy the story as much as I should.  Please let me know how you like this series in the comments below.

Final Thoughts

Dr. Strange brings us to realms, and cities like never before seen. A compelling story with art that brings you to new worlds and realms.
