Review
There is an attempt here to smooth over Eddie’s more sharpened edges, but it mostly ends in vain. Despite everyone’s attempts to get through his shield of immaturity, our boy stands firm in his childish behavior. You have to respect the consistency. The second half of the issue focuses on Eddie’s fight against Big Cock, a humongous menagerie agent that wear a chicken mask (get your mind out of the gutter.) Eddie is literally beaten up and down town and to the gas station before he is able to subdue BC.
Kyle Starks injects much more comedy in this issue, and while a lot of it lands like usual, one joke in particular overstays its welcome. This comes in the form of the couple that works at the diner where Eddie meets up with BC. A minor joke of them narrating the situation balloons for roughly a page too long, though BC looking up Eddie’s bounty while Eddie is yapping away is funny. There is also a small bonding moment between Eddie and his father that will likely pay dividends as the story goes on.
Steve Pugh’s art remains entertaining and mostly realistic. Eddie’s fight with BC is the main highlight, but outside of that there isn’t much to say that hasn’t been said for the past two issues.
Final Thoughts
End of Life #3 is a solid chapter despite a couple narrative hiccups and stale jokes. Though the action and good characterization is more than enough to keep you around for more.
