Recap

THE CALL OF DOOM!
As guardians of the gate, Excalibur has sworn to safely escort those who quest to the Otherworld within, but their duties are tested to their limits when DOOM returns to Avalon.

Review

Howard sat down for the script ready to take Excalibur on a chaotic adventure with Doctor Doom. This issue serves as a fun step in Howard’s story of the team discovering secrets left by Arthur and Morgan Le Fay. Any fan of Camelot stories would certainly love to see this one explored through a mutant lens.

It’s fascinating to always see Doom temporarily take up a truce to work with someone cause I know for a fact Excalibur was wishing they could be dealing with anything else but him. Putting their differences aside, I enjoy how stern Betsy is making it clear she is putting the protection of mutants first. Betsy shows her leadership skills and how to handle working with someone she dislikes in a professional manner.

I do find myself wishing to see more of Jubilee throughout each issue, and this issue it was nice to see her a tad bit more, yet i’m still here wishing for more. I definitely understand balancing all the voices of a cast can be challenging, although it would be nice to see Jubilee have a more prominent role like Rictor and Betsy. I do enjoy seeing Meggan continue to step into being a full fledged member of the team.

Along with our phenomenal artistic duo I love how they draw Meggan in any scene she’s in. I absolutely am a huge fan of seeing how To gets to draw Doom for this issue. To for sure gets down the menacing demeanor that Doom gives off. Arciniega does a wonderful job with coloring with the team’s abilities. It adds a mystical element that the book desires.

Final Thoughts

This wonderful creative team continues to complete my needs for a DnD like story. It was very fun to see Doom in this issue. I enjoyed his interactions with Betsy. I'm happy to see Meggan continuing to become a part of the team.
