Review

“You’re stronger than whatever this is” – Andi Benton

Andi and Scream are back! Continuing from the pages of Extreme Carnage: Alpha; Andi and Scream find themselves in a deadly pickle, courtesy of, you guessed it…Carnage! Extreme Carnage is Marvel’s blockbuster summer hit this year and tells a story of a reborn Carnage at the same time bringing the other symbiotes into the light and attempting to bind them under his vile command.

With Scream being on the shelves again that can only mean that Clay Mcleod Chapman is back at the helm and once again is in full command of this hellish ride. Scream fans have rejoiced in the fact that Chapman’s exceptional attention to detail with Andi and Scream and his latest offering only strengthens that notion. When reading Chapman’s take on Scream, you become engulfed in not only the comic but the trials and tribulations of the characters. Having a writer who is familiar with the protagonist and understands them, elevates the story that much more. Those familiar with Chapman’s writing whether novels or comics know exactly what I’m talking about.

Symbiotes are scary and when you tell their story, you need to be dialed in to a certain element of horror that isn’t too gory but still puts goosebumps on your arms. We have the solid story that gives us the creeps, now we need to be able to see it, to feel it, and experience it. Art needs to tell a story without words and Chris Mooneyham and Marcio Menyz do just that. The art is delightfully ghoulish and fills you with terror. Without spoiling too much, there are numerous examples that we can talk about regarding the art, but when Carnage shows up and the sh*t hits the fan, Mooneyham and Menyz have managed to create chaos within the panels and have done so in a brilliant fashion.

Final Thoughts

When a creative team puts their soul into the panels it creates more than a comic book, it creates an adventure the makes a connection with its readers. Extreme Carnage: Scream #1 has a great feel to it and delivers what the fans want. A great story with great art and just enough speculation that will keep folks coming back for more.
