Review

Remake, retelling, rebooting, whatever you want to call it, is an addiction we can’t get enough of. Sure, not everything is going to hit the bullseye, but when they do, it’s awesome. Fantasy Quest hits the target with the brute force of a battle axe. In this hilarious retelling of timeless classics, George Michail and Andrew Buckley are drunk with storytelling power. Imagine if Mel Brooks narrated fairy tales; that’s the amount of creativity we’re dealing with.

The story opens by introducing our protagonist, a disoriented John Carpenter. As the story unfolds, the characters start to reveal themselves with humor and horror, setting a solid foundation for one of the funniest series I’ve read this year. Rags Morales, Hailey Renee (art), and Nikki Powers (letters) bring the story to life with tremendous visuals of masterfully recrafted characters.

While retellings may not be for everyone, and I get it. But it’s stories such as Fantasy Quest twist fairytales into another universe so well that you can’t help but melt into the pages. Everyone from John Carpenter, Oz, and Wonderland is depicted in such a way that you can’t help but consider this another great title from the mind of George Michail.

Final Thoughts
