What You Need to Know:

Wally broke the barrier between the Speed Force and our world, granting Zolomon access to the Strength Force and the Sage Force. With the Justice League incapacitated, can Barry and Wally stop Zoom with his newfound powers?

What You’ll Find Out:

Possessing the powers of the Speed, Strength, and Sage Forces, Hunter Zolomon pronounces himself The Flash, chastises Barry and Wally, and zooms off into hypertime to remake the world in his image. As Barry and Wally discuss their various past failures and lost time, it is revealed that Wally’s Time Seizures seem to hurt Zolomon. In a desperate gambit, Wally draws on all of the Flash legacies to unleash enough temporal energy on Zoom to stop his ploy.

In the 25th century, Cold manages to deposit himself, Iris, and Wallace into the timestream just before the erasure of the 25th century, leaving Wallace the only hope in finding their way back to the 21st century. Using his anger at Barry as a lightning rod, Wallace is successful, but the damages to the various relationships in the Flash family may be too much to overcome.

After expelling the temporal energy, Wally and, presumably, Zoom, are ejected from hypertime, but the energy burst has unhinged hypertime from the time-space continuum, thus stopping all time travel and stranding Cold in the 21st century. The changes to the timeline have returned a familiar face to the Flash family and reconstructed the 25th century, but at the future Iron Heights Prison, the only inmate, Inmate: Crisis, has broken free from its cage.

What Just Happened?

In the conclusion to possibly the biggest Rebirth event to date (in terms of effect across the DCU), a number of wide-reaching ramifications have arisen. Over in Justice League, we have learned of seven ‘forces’ that exist in the DCU and Flash has uncovered three of them, while also referencing the recently discovered Still Force. With the Source Wall broken, it stood to reason that changes were on the horizon, but these changes seem to alter the very fabric of the DCU. The breaking of time-travel certainly lessens the threat of Inmate: Crisis for now, but if it is who I think it is, he has certainly done his fair share of breaking barriers in the past, and this would likely serve as just the prime barrier in his way. And while this issue left the Flash family fractured, it also provides hope in a major way with the return of a fan-favorite character, whom I’m having a difficult time controlling the impulse to spoil here! All in all, a much-hyped event that lived up to the hype, “Flash War” will go on to shape the DCU for the next few years.
