Flashpoint Beyond #3
Recap
Batman (Thomas Wayne) has somehow found his way back onto a world that shouldn't exist. Because he and a boatload of other heroes made sure to change reality so that it couldn't. But, he's back on the world of Flashpoint, where Barry Allen changed everything by going back in time and saving his mother's life!
Review
The thing that I loved about the Flashpoint mini-series, and as a result, this series, is that it has so much more to do with the DC Universe than just the Flash and The Batman. This issue, in particular, has a LOT going on in it, but don’t worry, there’s no need for you to bring a scorecard, and you’re not going to feel overwhelmed at any point. What you WILL be is highly entertained. This issue’s cast of characters is enormous, but the authors manage to give everyone adequate “page time” and make each of their storylines engrossing and entertaining. As you can tell by the cover, Superman takes center stage here, but unlike in the original Flashpoint, this time, Supes is working with the other heroes and not against them. One thing in particular that the authors do here is to make sure that even though they’re not “super friends”, the heroes can form an alliance that’s contentious yet believable. The authors build upon what has come before to make something both fresh and familiar. The surprises are many, and the story will keep you guessing right up until the very last page. If you’re not over the top in love with Dark Crisis, don’t worry. There’s plenty of big summer blockbuster action right here!
Artists Xermanico and Mikel Janin deliver some really, very well-crafted pages, which should not be a surprise to you in the least. The level of quality and consistency of these two is amazing, and they have pretty much set the bar as far as event books go; whether you’re a “Wednesday Warrior” or just a casual comic book reader, make sure and grab this series. The creative team has done an outstanding job making this extremely entertaining and yet, somehow accessible to just about everybody. Perfect summer read!!!
