Review

The halfway point of Robert Venditti’s Freedom Fighters series features surprises, shocks, action and some fantastic art! I was overjoyed to see a reference to Multiversity: The Mastermen, confirming this is a direct sequel to the infamous Grant Morrison/ Jim Lee one shot that featured and aging Overman having doubts. I actually went back and read the one shot and it lines up. Doll Woman in fact (in the one shot) mentions her pacifist nature, which a couple issues back she mentioned she gave up upon the death of Doll Man. Likewise in the one shot you see the death of the second Human Bomb which is again mentioned in this issue. I highly recommend reading the one shot between issues 1 and 2 of this series as it shows the doubts Overman was feeling, which is a pivotal moment in the twist of this issue, which blew my mind, I won’t reveal it.

The art by Eddy Barrows and Eber Ferriera is just so great, I will say after reading the Jim Lee drawn one shot I like Barrows’ Uncle Sam and Overman better than Lee’s which seems unthinkable to say but the art is seriously that great.

This is close to a perfect issue for me. Tight continuity, interesting, surprising, great art, just the best.

Final Thoughts

This issue has made this series (in my opinion) the best series at DC right now, hands down.
