Review

I don’t think I’ve ever been the biggest fan of author Brian Michael Bendis, and I certainly haven’t hated it. His Daredevil wasn’t my cup o’ tea, but I loved Ultimate Spider-Man, So when I dove into this issue of Future State: Legion of Super-Heroes, I had no expectations of reservations, and now that I finished it…I can honestly tell you that this comic is……okay, I think if you’re a Legion fan going in, this is going to be a pretty big deal. Bendis makes you familiar enough with the characters that you immediately know who’s important and who’s not. There are some characters that you’re supposed to care more about than others, and quite a few big reveals that are gonna be really important to the Legion audience. When it comes to the technical aspects of comics, Bendis is a pro. His story hits every single beat you want in a single-issue story, he gets in plenty of cliffhangers, a few head-scratchers, one REALLY big mystery, and plenty of action, And I can’t put over enough the way that he and the artist gel so well here.

This was my first exposure to artist Riley Rossmo, and I think this was a good introduction. Here he creates not only a new world but literally almost a whole different galaxy. His style really suits this book, It’s a great, kinetic, chaotic sort of style that isn’t the least bit confusing. He makes everything look and feel like things are constantly in motion. The creative team goes a little heavy on the double-page spreads, in my opinion, and after a while, they lose their effectiveness.

Final Thoughts

Decent. Not horrible, not life-changing, but the story will entertain you and keep your interest and if you're a Legion fan, I have a feeling that you're gonna love it!!
