Review

When a new comic series start, writers take many different routes. Some may choose to concentrate on introducing a storyline. Others may choose to concentrate on introducing storyline and characters. A very select few will focus on making an entire book centered around a character that doesn’t fall anywhere in mainstream knowledge. Hence, Benjamin Percy went the smart route when choosing to give a heavy introduction to the abstract character of a demonic spirit looking for a new host.

There’s ultimately not much too say about the book, other than the spirit going in and out of a multitude of human bodies was partially exciting. Especially with the incineration of hellfire effect, leaving a trail wherever he goes. It would be awesome to see repercussions of those events later on.

Diving deep into characterization, this spirit (like any demon) looks for trouble. There’s a single mother whose husband passed away and custody of her kids being threatened away from her. Feeding into this impulse of war, the spirit fans the flames by possessing her, scaring away a lawyer and incinerating her mother-in-law’s body. Mother-in-laws are something, huh?

The spirit looks to do evil, which it hasn’t been utilized for by its previous user. Given the name “Final Vengeance”, hopefully we get a good look at what it’s really capable of.

As a quick note on the art, it’s dramatic enough to the point where its nice to look at and the colors really do pop out at the reader. It adds enough detail to where you forget the same thing is happening on each page.

Final Thoughts

All in all, the first book in this series isn't awful but has nothing really special about it that stands out, especially for a book that's supposed to get you hooked on a particular character.
