Recap

Gwen Stacy has found a way to satisfy her urge for seeing her favorite bands in alternate universes. Well, it’s all fun and games until the Ghost-Spider and her dad are at odds with her helping the cops, missing her curfew, and now they have to deal with the missing Storm siblings who have turned up in the police station.

Review

With the Ghost-Spider series, I knew what I was getting into.

Seanan McGuire continues to write a character that makes it easy to get lost in. Issue 6 had me wondering what would the bands that I listened to as a teenager sound and look like in different universes. Would Henry Rollins be 60 lbs heavier, would Layne Staley still be alive, maybe U2 tickets would be easier to come by.

The possibilities are endless. Just like this issue. Continuing with Gwen’s sarcastic and sassy spider-behavior, this is the Gwen that keeps readers coming back. Ian Herring’s colors continue to be FANTASTIC and come through brilliantly. Ig Guara and Rosi Kämpe’s art provides a good background to aid the storytelling.

I’m OK with it, I don’t mean that as a dig, it’s just not my style. The art has its ups and downs but overall decent. Now, let’s talk about the direction of the book. Right out of the gates we are introduced to the Storm siblings, who are in paradise for a photo-shoot and their next destination is none other than Latveria. Buckle up folks cause the ride could get bumpy after what I am about to tell you. The Storms mysteriously go missing on their way to said destination. The horror, the intrigue, what will happen to the Storms? This is why I really enjoy McGuire and her writing, she’s like a good closer in baseball who has a FANTASTIC curveball that you can see coming, however you cannot hit it.

Final Thoughts

I loathe the fact that I have to wait a whole month for issue 7, which I’m sure will be FANTASTIC! Ok, no more puns, however, I am really excited to see how Latveria is going to play into it, the Storm siblings and their angle, can Gwen keep up with school, friends, her dad, and multi-verse travel? Too many questions to be answered!
