Recap

Ghost-Spider just got really, really good and interesting on another level. The Storm siblings are back in New York City, and Gwen doesn’t like this suspicious feeling that is in her gut. As this issue plays out, the plot takes a fantastic turn that gives birth to many questions and scenarios.

Review

Earth-65 is home to many different versions of Marvel icons such as J. Jonah Jameson, Frank Castle, and now we can add Sue and Johnny Storm. When issue 6 left us with the revelation of the Storm twins being found, an event that surely had readers’ mouths ajar and their minds spinning with questions on how these icons of Marvel lore will be integrated into Gwen’s life and world.

Well, the plot unfolds we find out that the twins are under the impression they have only been missing for a day. As it turns out…it’s been 4 years, with an international search to boot. We quickly learn, about the arrest of Franklin Storm on charges of multiple counts of murder, an event that sent the family name down the tubes (so to speak).

What is a socialite to do when her name is ruined, and she is removed from her way of life? Dress up your kids, and roll them out on cue for social media. When Sue and Johnny are reunited with their mother, they are just going through the motions and realize it’s not them that Mary Storm missed, but their social media presence and the money it brought in. In walks the Ghost-Spider, and almost immediately Gwen knows there’s something just not right with all of this. Saving a woman from a robbery and the victim mentions to Gwen how she liked her “fire trick”. Now Gwen has to figure who’s “flaming” her bad guys, now to add another level of intrigue to this story; The Maker is back! Yes, Reed Richards from Earth-1610 knows the Richards are back and has his sights on his final plan.

What is that plan? Well, that will have to be saved for the next issue!

Final Thoughts

Seanan McGuire continues to develop Gwen into a character that has the right blend of mystery, humor and attaches to readers with ease. The introduction of the Storms and The Maker has sent this book to another fantastic level of entertainment. In true McGuire fashion, there are so many questions filled with anticipation and intrigue going into the next issue, and I wouldn’t have it another way.
