Recap

Not all is right on Earth-65. Gwen needs to find out why strange things are starting to happen now that the Storms are back in town. To add that particular mountain The Maker of Earth-1610 is keeping tabs on Gwen.

Review

If there was ever a time to jump into this book, the time is now. Seanan McGuire continues to write a really good Ghost-Spicer story, with twists and turns that only add to this amazing ride. Gwen continues to handle anything thrown at her with extreme grace and fervor, and in this new arc we are in she has no choice. After dealing with the creepiness that was the Jackal she should be used to whatever is thrown her way. Now that the Storm is back and in full swing she has to deal with the possibility that they might be taking things into their own hands.

She’s getting reports about criminals around town getting “flamed”. Now any True Believer knows that this could only mean one thing. Or does it? That is what Gwen is currently dealing with. BUT WAIT! There’s more because Ghost-Spider weaves into a bit of OUTLAWED #1. After talking with Peter about what has transpired with Kamala Khan, we see a side of Gwen that we have not seen. This Gwen is more angry and determined than ever before, she does not see how age can determine your worth when wanting to save innocent people from harm’s way. Gwen will no doubt have to put her conversation with Peter on the back burner for now, because there are bigger fish to fry, especially with The Maker keeping an eye on her.

In true McGuire fashion, we have only teased his appearance, leaving us with only our theories of what the Maker has in store for Gwen and possibly the Storms. Speaking of theories, with her being absolutely beside herself after talking with Peter, we soon see Gwen going into a burner building to assist firefighters, but she switches into Gwenom to do so. With how Outlawed is most likely to pan out, the Storms, the Maker, one can only make the call that Gwenom is not far behind in making a rage appearance. We shall see.

Final Thoughts

These final thoughts always get me thinking about how to wrap up these reviews. With Ghost-Spider I find myself going back to boasting over McGuire and how see writes Gwen. This current arc is building the intrigue and making you crave more even after you’ve finished reading. Issue 8 really paints a broad picture of who Gwen is becoming. McGuire has set this so majestically that we will be talking about her time at the helm for years to come.
