Ghostbusters: Year One #2: Rivers and Seas Boiling!

Writer Erik Burnham has been writing Ghostbusters comics for years now. Do you want to know the best part about the books he writes? No matter how many times you’ve seen the movie, the cartoon episodes, no matter how good you think you know Ghostbusters lore, he always comes up with something you didn’t know. This issue focuses on Ray, who is without a doubt the heart of the Ghostbusters. Burnham gives us another awesome “Ghostbusters 1.5” scene and not only that, we finally get to see the origin of the boys. Well, the real origin. In addition to that, he brings back a  few characters from the first movie that you’ve forgotten and turns them into total scene-stealers. I really love what he’s doing with this Year One series, it’s stories that answer questions that were always in the back of our mind, but we could never find answers for.

And I don’t even know where to start with artist Dan Schoening. How great is this guy? Believe me, he was born to draw Ghostbusters, if you do a google search you’ll see that he has plenty of experience too. Without spoiling anything, Schoening gives us some “different takes” on the Ghostbusters this issue, and it had me honest to God laughing out loud. He’s famous for his likenesses, in fact, some would say he’s infamous. You know, when someone’s so famous they’re “in” famous. Yeah, he’s that good. He has a few very unique page layouts this issue as well. Easy for your eye to follow, but different at the same time. A job very well done.
