Review

Ghostbusters: Year One is a series that just keeps getting better. Even with Coronamania runnin’ wild, I’m really hyped for the new movie, and this comic is just getting me more excited! This issue author Erik Burnham and artist Dan Schoening bring the spotlight down on everybody’s favorite Ghostbuster (yeah, I said it) Peter Venkman!! Continuing the ongoing story of all four of the boys in gray being interviewed for a book by author Rebecca Morales (who looks suspiciously a lot like my third wife Rashida Jones). Once again Burnham & Schoening come up with a hilarious between the scenes untold story that takes a throwaway line from the movie and transforms it into a full-out entertaining story that is true to the film in every single way possible. When reading this you can actually see the scenes in your head. Now that is talent! Burnham hits all the right beats with those and he totally nails the dialogue by delivering lines that are so in character, it’s incredible. Even the characters that original to this story fit seamlessly into the world of the Ghostbusters.

As I’ve said right here before, Dan Shoening is one of my favorite artists working today. This man is SO underrated, it’s criminal. Everything he does is a home run. When you read a book by Dan Shoening, you have to read it two or three times at least. He hides SO much in each and every issue that you have to stare at every single page to find them all. Even then you probably still won’t find them all. But, it’s a great Easter egg hunt, one that’s a lot of fun to go on. What makes this issue specifically great is his use of panels in telling the story. He makes some bold choices and they all are vital of fitting in this whole story.

I think the main thing that makes all of IDW’s Ghostbusters books great comes down to one thing I always beg for consistency. Burnham & Shcoening have been working together since day one and that makes for a better book. There’s no discord between art and story. They both gel together very well and that only makes a comic book better than average and better than most

Final Thoughts

Yet another fantastic issue. You want your money to work for you? But this issue!!! NO WAITING FOR THE TRADE!!!!
