Review

Writer Paul Allor is making me nervous, which is a good thing. The whole time I was reading this book, I was on the edge of my seat. After the shocking events of the last issue, all bets are off. In this GI Joe, nobody is safe, and no one can be trusted. For the most part, this issue is a training exercise with a lot of character development and history. We get some action mixed in here and there, but it’s a little light for my taste. I know every issue can’t be full-out war, but this one seems a little heavy on composition. Aside from that, this issue really moves the overall story along into a very interesting place, and as I mentioned before, it gives us some much-needed backstory of some of the characters.

Just look at this gorgeous art by Chris Evenhuis!! I gotta tell ya, he’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. His style is amazing. Not too simple or cartoony and at the same time, it’s not overly detailed at all. Evenhuis has a great clean, crisp style that really adds to the story, grabbing their hand and leading them easily down the path that he & Allor want you to go down. There’s some fist-fighting this issue and Evenhuis does a fantastic job of portraying the action without making it look staged or choreographed.

Final Thoughts

I little light in the action department, but we get a lot of character origins and backstory. Add to that, an underlying storyline that will have you holding you're breath and you've got a really solid issue here.
