GI Joe A Real American Hero #270: Sometimes the Villains are the Coolest

All right!!! It’s that time again!! This month we’re already up to chapter 5 of the Snake Hunt storyline. In short, it’s another great issue, and there are so many reasons why it’s so great. First off, it’s an ensemble cast of Joes and Cobras. Even though the list of both teams is miles long, it seems like almost everybody gets a little bit of screen time this issue, and of course, every character is played true to form. What else would you expect from author Larry Hama? He’s been doing this for 270 issues straight, I’d think it’s safe to say that he’s got the hang of it. While this month the plot is a little lite on the “Snake” part of the hunt, it’s heavy on supporting cast action, and when you’re dealing with a cast as big as the Joe team, there’s plenty of toys in the sandbox to play with. You can see chess pieces moving into pace, getting ready to launch an all-out assault on Cobra, and you can see the Cobra and their amazing friends getting ready to take on Joe with what they feel is the real Snake-Eyes, and their other forces. This is a vert fast-paces issue, and the read is exciting and thrilling, just like the preview 269 issues.

This month Robert Atkins gets some time off and we’re treated to artist Netho Diaz’ work! Diaz has quickly become one of my favorite Joe artists. He’s a great artist, period, but when you throw in his obvious love and knowledge of the GI Joe universe, he turns the art up to 12(because 12 is the new 11). Even during the talking heads panels, he makes them come alive through his use of emotions and facial expressions. Great story, great art, a great comic all around!
