Recap

On the eve of a major wrestling event, GLOW gets some national news coverage, but it's threatened with a stowaway at the GLOW studios threatens to bring it all to a very tragic ending.

Review

The good news is that this is another fantastic issue, the bad news is that it’s the last issue of this mini-series. I can honestly say that in spirit, this mini has been the closest to the humor, charm, drama, and tone as the Netflix show.

Authors Aimee Garcia and AJ Mendez turn out another great script that’s filled with enough laughs and stories to satisfy fans of the show and comic fans in general, along with enough “insider terms” to make any wrestling fan happy. During the story, you get a very brief tutorial on how a match is constructed and how one wrestler can step in and save a match when a mistake is made or a wrestler misses their landing and all this makes you realize that YES professional wrestlers ARE athletes, they’re not stuntmen like so many people think they are. This is such a fantastic ending to the series, everything is resolved neatly, with enough leftover that they could possibly revisit this story or plotline in the future, and it would be a welcome second chapter in a story that’s got endless possibilities. I really hope we get more GLOW comics from Garcia and Mendez.

Artist Hannah Templer is as good as she has been throughout the whole series. As I’ve said before, her art style fits the show’s tone more than any that we’ve seen before. What she’s able to do with minimal detail is amazing, and I’ve never seen such emotion conveyed with such simple, direct, looks and believe me, there is a lot of emotion portrayed in this issue. In fact, I’d say all of them are represented at one time or another.

This has been a great series. It makes you laugh, it makes you smile, it makes you think, and at the end of the day, that’s pretty much the best thing a comic book can do, right

Final Thoughts

I great ending to the series and on its own, a very fine issue. Some very nice surprises give this series a different feel that you'd originally thought.
