Review
This is my fourth and final of the first wave of TKO presents TPBs and i gotta say this one is probably my favorite, this story is powerful in characterization and steeped in mystery. Without giving too much away the powerlessness and futility is reminiscent of one of the greatest lines ever spoken in a film. Forget it, Jake, it’s Chinatown. No matter where Eddie turns he finds derision and even people trying to help him don’t. The end is one of my favorites in recent memory. The setting as much as the story and characters is the real star, Santa Monica feels alive, between the ambient characters and locations and the beautiful art it’s perfect.
The art by Alberto Ponticelli and Giulia Brusco (colors) is phenomenal, I believe it was Dysart on Twitter that said Ponticelli took thousands of reference photos in Santa Monica and it really shows.
