Review
Green Lantern Civil Corps Special #1 sets the new status quo for Hal Jordan and the rest as the end of the Absolute Power event ushers in the DC All In era.
As a whole this series takes the events of John Stewart’s maxiseries Green Lantern: War Journal, the events of the United Planets locking Sector 2814 down in the regular Green Lantern series , and the events of Absolute Power and bringing them back together for the new All In era.
The first page does a good job of catching readers up that Earth is been blockaded by Lord Premier Thaaros, but does less to give a recap of why John Stewart is flying around with the Elle construct. The least that could have been included was a Editor note that would lead readers who may have missed the series, which also plays into the issue later on. An explanation of Lantern Shephard, also from the War Journal series, and now on Earth, would have also been helpful.
Seeing Alan Scott make an appearance was also a nice touch along with Orange Lantern Larfleeze, and that the Durlans are able to manipulate the spectrum, thus pushing characters to a different color is a fun idea that needs to be explored more.
The art and color work are solid throughout as one expects from Larroca and Gurrerro making the constructs leap off the page.
Final Thoughts
Green Lantern Civil Corps Special #1 is a solid lead in to the next chapter of the Green Lantern saga and All In era. Those who have been following Philip Kennedy Johnson and Jeremy Adams' recent work on the characters should have little problem catching up, but the issue may not be a new reader friendly introduction, but wouldn't require too much catching up to be up to speed.
