Recap

The Guardians of the Galaxy begin to fracture before they even form, with Starfox putting together a darker team capable of doing what is necessary, killing Gamora! To do so they must find the one man she might trust with her location, Nova!

Review

This second issue in Donny Cates all new all different Guardians series sets the tone a bit on the trademark Cates darkly humorous side, with members of his team walking off, no clear cut goal to speak of and low booze supplies, presumably. I’m fairly happy with the team, I could certainly use more Beta Ray Bill in my life, it was a bit strange that Cates’ baby Cosmic Ghost Rider walked off the team but Starfox’s dark Guardians interest me. All in all a bit of a letdown after the big events of last issue.

I must have been mistaken last issue, I thought most or all of the heroes were sucked into the vortex at the end, and where did Starfox get injured? Did I miss an issue? We didn’t receive a ton of answers, but the issue was a lot of fun. I loved mini stabby groots.

Geoff Shaw is just killing it on this series currently, with the fight between Cosmic Ghost Rider and Groot being a real highlight. I lived it when Moondragon smashes Frank against the wall, but again, why, other than “cuz comics” BS.

I sure hope this series picks up this issue was disappointing. Fun moments abound but the plot is thin and convoluted at times.

Final Thoughts

I'm really hoping this series picks up a bit, I really want to love it.
