Publisher: DC Comics
What You Need to Know:
Following the Revenge arc in Action Comics, Zod and his family fled from Superman and his friends (seriously, read that arc, it’s awesome) and ended up on the planet Jekuul, which is at about the societal equivalent of the stone age. Finding the natives dumb and easy to subjugate, they have established a new Krypton, much to the chagrin of the Green Lantern Corps! (due to some prime directive type missive I’m sure) You can’t just take over a planet and hope nobody notices!
What You’ll Find Out:
We open on the titular Lantern Jordan imprisoned “in a cell designed to hold a Kryptonian” in stocks, Zod asks him how he would react were their roles reversed. Hal responds with his typical attitude, not giving Zod anything for his trouble. As Zod leaves, Hal tells him not to get comfortable, the Corps is coming!
We cut to John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner, Kyle is bursting with willpower energy due to wearing Hal’s ring, which is literally made of willpower. Kyle tells them about Zod, and John runs off to tell the Guardians.
The Guardians take the news very slowly and deliberately, not really making a decision and instead, talking slowly and deliberately. Despite John urging them to make a decision, heaven knows Hal wouldn’t hesitate to help them, (in fact he didn’t, last arc WOOO) John flies away saying he misses the way things were when the guardians were missing.
Luckily for Hal Guy and Kyle don’t wait, they take off with an army of Lanterns, headed for a full frontal assault on Jekuul!

What Just Happened?
Man, I can’t get over how much I love this arc, it’s such perfect Hal Jordan vs Zod, I really can’t think of another arc where the GLC fights not one but 3 full powered Kryptonians without resorting to some McGuffin level nonsense like conjuring Kryptonite (which I heard was a no-no in post-Geoff Johns Green Lantern comics).
The amazing moment of dialogue between Hal and Zod is definitely a highlight, in a story that could’ve been a 4 issue epic battle a bit of good dialogue goes a long way. It’s no surprise that the Guardians wouldn’t decide and everyone left without them, they have been hesitating lately, I think the Controllers scared them a bit.
I love that the Green Lanterns are going for a full frontal assault, although I have a feeling it will be repelled. My theory is that Superman (freshly returned from Jekuul in the future as of this weeks issue of Action Comics) will step in and intervene.
It’s nice having Rafa Sandoval back, although Ethan van Sciver has been killing it in his absence. The art in this issue is fantastic!
Rating: 8/10
Final Thought:
I seriously can’t wait for next issue, if nothing else than to see if I’m right! Man, I love this book, this is a fantastic arc it’s gonna be a big one I have a feeling.
