Zod and his family have fought back the entire Green Lantern Corps, now it’s just down to Hal and the General, only one of them is walking away, but how is the other leaving? In cuffs? Or a bodybag?
Title: Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #41 (Zod’s Will Conclusion)
Writer: Robert Venditti
Art: Brandon Peterson
Colors: Tomeu Morey
Letter: Dave Sharpe
Publisher: DC Comics
What You Need to Know:
Following the events of the Revenge arc (in Action Comics) Zod and his family fled Earth for the stars, ending up on the planet Jekuul. Once there they enslaved the population of the planet and pledged to make it into a new Krypton. Much to the displeasure of the Green Lantern Corps. The first skirmish went to the Kryptonians last issue, but Hal Jordan wasn’t on the scene, now it’s down to him and Zod!
What You’ll Find Out:
As the people of Jekuul and the Green Lanterns watch, Hal and Zod streak towards each other at the speed of sound, smashing together with a boom! Zod is shooting to kill, Hal wants to bring Zod in. This issue is really visual, the summary doesn’t really do it justice.
Zod finds that Hal is much more used to aerial combat, and Hal gains the upper hand, will he keep it? Pick up a copy of Hal and the Corps 41 and find out!
What Just Happened? (minor spoilers!!!!)
Man, this arc ended as well as it started! Epic start to finish, this is gonna make for an excellent trade paperback! The end of this issue is not what you expect at all, the battle doesn’t end when the loser falls. Victory isn’t all it seems to be either. Far less cut and dry than one would expect.
This issue had some rock solid triumphant moments to counter the trouncing the Corps received last issue, and the Eradicator got what he was looking for, which isn’t good for anyone.
Loved the Guardians stance at the end, despite them basically torpedoing the Corps actions, it signifies a change in the thinking of the immortal Guardians. Is it for the better? Only time will tell. Only 9 issues left until Robert Venditti heads to Hawkman.
Rating: 9/10
Final Thoughts:
Darn near a perfect finale to a fantastic arc, much better than a clean victory it takes the time to lend a little gravitas and intrigue at the end. Next issue: Darkstars!
