What You to Know:
The Darkstars have broken free from the grip of the controllers and are now spreading justice across the universe with lethal results, recruiting any they find with the thirst for justice, although this justice feels more like revenge! The Darkstars haven’t let anyone stand between them and justice, killing police officers and even Green Lanterns who refuse to comply! The Darkstars latest recruit is Guy Gardner!
What You’ll Find Out:
We open in a crappy neighborhood in Baltimore, Roland Gardner stares at the home he used to share with his son, Guy. He is wracked with guilt for the things he did while drinking heavily, abusing his young son, as he stands there and ruminates on his many failures an explosion happens inches behind him, Guy has come for revenge!
We cut to space sector 563, an empty planet with breathable air. Hal Jordan and Hector Hammond, Hal has brought Hammond to this planet to test the extent of his capabilities. Hammond, in a misguided attempt to help Hal, shows him a world where all of his enemies lie dead at his feet, Hal protests, but Hammond says he knows Hal’s true feelings and does something quite drastic.
Elsewhere, John Stewart meets with Zod, military man to military man, he tells Zod they’re having trouble combating the Darkstars teleportation tech, and Zod gives him schematics for a Kryptonian Tele Disruptor, an anti-teleportation tool used in Kryptonian combat. Similarly, Kyle Rayner on New Genesis begs Orion for help, but Highfather refuses!

What Just Happened?
I have said before that the Darkstars mission seems more like petty revenge than true justice and this issue clinches it, Guy Gardner coming after his father for a relatively minor crime while ignoring literal thousands of worse criminals on Earth is pretty personal and petty, makes sense though, as the Darkstars seem to have little or no direction or oversight, as opposed to the strictly controlled and deployed Green Lanterns.
I kind of dislike the Tele Disruptor in concept feels kinda overly convenient. (assuming it works haha) A bit too villain of the week for me. (The villain only has one weakness, thankfully my next door neighbor has a jar of cloves in their pantry! WE’RE SAVED)
The art is great, as has been a touchmark of this series in general, hard to believe we only have 3 issues to go, gonna miss Venditti.
Rating: 8/10
Final Thoughts: Tons of payoff for longtime readers of Green Lantern this issue, with a bunch of plot threads and callbacks present, not very new reader friendly but very rewarding for a fan. Amazing arc!
