Review

The “Trials of Harley Quinn’ take a significantly darker turn in Harley Quinn #60, but that doesn’t mean there can’t still be a happy ending, right?

It only takes a few pages to see that this issue is a fun and engaging story with some truly remarkable artwork. The latest arc from Humphries and company which focuses on increasingly treacherous emotional explorations of Harley Quinn as a character has provided some interesting opportunities, but this issue takes it up a notch hitting almost all the right notes for a great Harley Quinn comic. The dark edge has been spotty in the series post Rebirth, but here we see the creative team hitting their stride by using that darkness as a catalyst to dive deeper into Harley’s true strengths.

This story is both a testament to the potentials of Harley as a character, and the creative team’s uncanny understanding of her. With a sci-fi approach to this particular trial, the twists and turns are able to explore really interesting key moments for Harley without sacrificing action or her unique whimsical nature. It really is close to everything you could want in a Harley Quinn comic.

With a strong narrative, the artwork has plenty of chances to deliver some spectacular visuals that help make the issue more interesting and engaging. From her past horrors to the alternate versions of herself, the artwork continues to impress with each new page. I even like the Tomb Raider style aesthetic they have going for Harley this issue!

Overall, this issue is an excellent example of what the modern Harley Quinn is all about. This is one that any fan needs to check out, even if they aren’t following the entire series. And next, we have a girls night out with Harley Quinn, Enchantress and Catwoman! So, it looks like things could only keep getting better from here….

Final Thoughts

Accentuating the whimsical nature of Harley Quinn as a character, the creative team uses her dark past as a catalyst to explore her innermost struggles in Harley Quinn #60. With plenty of gorgeous visuals, this is an issue that no fan of Harley should miss!
