Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy #6
It's the end of the road for our Gotham City sirens...and the revelation of Poison Ivy's shocking secret will rock you to your core! Will Harley Quinn be able to make the ultimate sacrifice to become the hero she so desperately wants to be? Or will old habits die hard and end Harley and Ivy's friendship forever?
The end has finally arrived, and while I never wanted this series to end, it reached a stunning conclusion in issue #6. Poison Ivy confronts herself, leaving Harley to pick up the pieces after the creative team essentially pulls the rug out from readers in one dramatic finale.
The entire success of this series thus far has been the chemistry between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. Their overt positivity and obvious care for one another made each new issue something to really look forward to. As it turns out, all of those budding dynamics (pun fully intended) were part of an excruciating setup that found Poison Ivy not entirely whole just yet. Another piece of herself had been causing the havoc all along, not the Floronic Man. This leaves Harley in shambles as she realizes that the events leading up to this haven’t been entirely what she believed them to be.
It’s the dramatic revelation that gives the issue all of the heart it needs to end on a high note. It isn’t some action packed spectacle and it doesn’t need to be. It’s an important moment in the relationship between Harley and Ivy, and the creative team is smart enough to let it stand as just that. They haven’t reinvented the wheel with their future, as we leave them unfortunately as far apart as ever before, but it still feels meaningful after it’s all completed.
The visuals are once again stunning, keeping the same enjoyable consistency of the entire arc while adding a great flair for a final issue. The tension and emotion between the two characters is palpable on every panel and it helps to sell the story at hand. While the panel layouts still get a bit confusing at times, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy #6 is undoubtedly a well executed book.
If there’s one thing that’s for sure, it’s this series will be an undisputed hit with the legion of fans who seemingly can’t get enough of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. It’s got all of the memorable interactions and quirky dynamics that make these two so popular and it ends with just the slightest tease of more to come, setting up the next crazy adventure they might find themselves on.
This creative team has been an absolute blast on the series for all six issues and I’m sad to see it finally come to an end. However, it was a worthwhile journey that shed some light on what these two characters bring to the DC Universe and fandom in general, and hopefully we see more very soon!
Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy #6 is undeniably a well executed book, and if there's one thing for sure, it's that this entire series will be an undisputed hit with the legion of fans who seemingly can't get enough of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy together.
